As an Islamic term, the word Ahkam
(Arabic أحكام plural of حكم) refers to the degrees of approval
according to which actions are graded in Islamic law (derived
from interpretations of the Qur'an and Sunnah).
There are five degrees (ordered from best to worst):
Wajib, compulsory actions
Mustahabb, recommended but not prescribed
Mubah, neither recommended nor discouraged (neutral)
Makruh, Disliked but not forbidden
Muharram, Forbidden (haram)
In addition, the word Halal refers to what is legal and allowed. |
