The five fundamental needs. Tech: Five basic needs of every Muslim, namely, protection of life, religion (din), reason (aql), progeny and property. They have also been termed as maqasid al-shariah, i.e., the main objectives of the
shariah. An Islamic state is supposed to cater for these basic needs of all its inhabitants, should the individual, the family or his community be unable to do it.
